I have been with SideWalk since 2012. I began as a volunteer, and in 2016 began working for SideWalk as Operations Manager, When funding and need for that job ended, I returned as a volunteer.
Volunteers at SideWalk have always been considered part of staff. The jobs performed are what gets our homeless guests housed. Volunteers check people in, work with them on completing necessary paperwork, and sit with them and listen to what they have come to us for. When our guests return to us with potential housing options, it is the volunteers that work with them to complete the process.
There are many ways to volunteer your time. At SideWalk, you will be part of a team and the work you will do will be meaningful. If something in our process is not working well, all volunteers have a voice in making a change for improvement.
The work we do is serious and involves people in crisis. All volunteers are required to participate in on-line training to prepare them for the work they will do.
In the 10 years I have been with SideWalk the organization has continually changed with the needs of our community. We have been involved with thousands in our community who are looking for help, some we have helped into housing, some we have referred to needed resources, and some we just provided a friendly person to listen to their situation, allowing them to better solve their own problems.
Thank you for your dedication!
