Diversion Assistance

SideWalk offers one-time diversion assistance to those meeting eligibility requirements. Come visit us to see if we can be of assistance!

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for assistance, individuals must either currently be experiencing literal homelessness, such as sleeping outdoors, in a car, or in an emergency shelter, or have slept in one of these conditions within the last 30 days AND expect to do so again within the next 14
days. This also includes those in an RV without necessary connections or any shelter not meant for human habitation without heat or plumbing. Additionally, those staying in a tent in a friend or family’s backyard or a motel room funded by a church or social service organization are eligible. Other conditions not listed may also qualify if they meet the criteria of literal homelessness.

Move-In Costs

We will ask you first to find that new place yourself if you can. Your SideWalk volunteer can help you figure out where to start, and will be ready to talk about what we can offer when you’re ready. If you’ve tried to find a new place and still find yourself struggling, your SideWalk volunteer can help you with the search.

A Ride Home

If you can find a place to live outside Thurston County (usually with a friend or family member), SideWalk can pay for basic travel to get you there. We’ll talk to that person first before we send you on the road, and eligibility requirements apply.

Even if you don’t meet our eligibility requirements for financial assistance, please come in and talk to us. Our volunteers will listen, help you strategize, and connect you to other resources that may be able to help you. If you are a youth under 24, part of a family with children, or a veteran, we will ask if you have contacted other organizations.
